Six weeks post-op. I am cleared for return to all activities, including heavy lifting. Sounds like life can go back to normal... I missed my workouts, so I go to my favorite group workout class at my YMCA, Body Combat. I miss a step and roll my left ankle. I feel something pull under my heel and limp through the rest of the class. It seems after multiple ankle injuries in my youth, the remaining ligaments weren't strong enough to protect my ankle, and I cracked my calcaneus. Now what?!

First things first. I had a deviated septum repaired! Apparently I had broken my nose as a child. No one knows how and I don't remember. I had known about it for years, but with a physically demanding job (as a physical therapist) and as a mother to small children, I could not take the time to have it fixed.
Now I finally could!!
According to the surgeon (who was wonderful!), it was a more complicated surgery than expected. I was uncomfortable over the weekend, but you could hardly tell I'd had surgery. Even at the follow-up, the nurse was surprised to see I had no bruising. She thought I had cancelled the surgery! Maybe this was why no one knew how the break happened in the first place? All I can say is this was one of the best things I had ever done for myself!
I sleep better, no more snoring and wake up amazed at the oxygen that flows unhindered through my nasal passages. I will never take breathing for granted!

Early retirement!! Woo hoo!!! Today I bid farewell to a 15-year career in healthcare. I traded that in for full-time mommy-hood! What was I thinking??? A daunting task to be sure. The road ahead is uncharted and uncertain, but backwards is not an option. I have no idea how it will all go, but I'm very excited to focus on my home, my family, and my overall well-being. Let's do this!!
